Who Can Apply
To participate, your organization must currently hold a license or permit for one of the following:
- An NCE FM station (reserved or non-reserved band)
- A noncommercial AM radio broadcast station
- An LPFM station
The proposed translator must rebroadcast your primary station.
Application Limits
| Applicant Type | Application Limit |
| NCE FM / Noncommercial AM Licensees | Up to 10 |
| Tribal LPFM Licensees | Up to 4 |
| All Other LPFM Licensees | Up to 2 |
Four-Year Holding Period
All permits granted in this window come with a four-year holding period. Once on-air, you must:
- Continue rebroadcasting the designated primary station, and you cannot change it.
- Not sell or transfer the translator unless your primary station transfers to the same buyer simultaneously.
Timing: Start Planning Now
The FCC has not yet announced specific filing dates, but the filing window is likely to occur in the second half of 2026. Those will come in a separate Media Bureau public notice. Don't wait. Engineering studies, frequency coordination, and site analysis take time. Stations that begin preparation now will be positioned to file strong applications when the window opens.
